Spectrum organized another startup pitch competition, combining elements of a hackathon with startup businesses. It was open registration to anyone, forming teams of 3 – 5 to produce a business plan within 36 hours and compete for $3000+ in cash. The entire event was completely free and Spectrum generously provided 6+ meals and snacks for everyone.
Registration was at MUSC, where teams picked up name tags and schedules.
Everyone arrived on the Friday evening at 6pm for some pub dinner and opening remarks. A solid lineup of chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, pizza slices, fries and other fried food was available.
The entire weekend revolved around building a business via the business canvas model. Laying out your assumptions and anticipating how it will operate. Unfortunately, you didn’t need a tangible product by the end, only a flashy presentation to wow the judges. Perhaps we’re just salty nolunchmoney didn’t win and was difficult to monetize as a business. But regardless, we’re still going to keep trucking on.
The main workplace was set up in MUSC atrium, where teams powered on through the night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were served throughout the weekend, with midnight snacks like pizza and cookies.
