This Tuesday was the last Spectrum event of the year. Everyone was quite steeped in anticipation for this. Marketing campaigns were running all month hyping this up; my Facebook and twitter were flooded for this, and everywhere on campus had posters plastered for this.
The event ran from 5pm – 8pm right in student center.
Around noon, the AVTEK crew began setting up the sound and stage, I could tell it was going to be huge. There were also door raffles for iPad and GoPro! Seems like these guys have bottomless pockets! Note every single event Spectrum hosted throughout the year offered amazing free food.
This time was something special. We arrived at the buffet line right around 5pm, to a godly scene. Paradise catering pulled out all the stops – there was a huge shrimp sculpture, sushi, skewered chicken, hors d’oeuvres and various other delectable offerings! The lineup quickly stretched around the block and people eagerly wanted a shot at the shrimp and sushi. Within 30min the food was all cleared out.
Once everyone settled in, the real event started. We kicked things off with a yearend summary. We watched a short clip of all the events during the year, and Justin (Spectrum manager) came on stage to give thanks to all the sponsors and stakeholders.
The event itself was a pitch competition. 10 participants delivered a 2 min pitch, followed with a Q&A period by a panel of judges to compete for cash prizes of $25,000, $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000! You can read more about the specifics here.
My overall impression was very positive, the event was well organized and attendance was very high. MUSC atrium was the idea location, as people passing by stopped to watch, and students on second floor all crowded around the ledges.
