This afternoon we had an information session for a very unique scholarship valued at $25,000. The purpose of this stipend was for students to undergo an experiential learning journey outside their field of study. A 1-page abstract and 1 page detail of journey is required for the preliminary selection. Then, rounds of interviews follow. Interestingly, a past winner elected to learn about Japanese tea ceremony. So the scholarship sponsored her for an all expenses paid vacation to Japan and get a taste of local culture
Sounds like anyone who can write well and wants to go abroad, under the guise of “learning trip” will win it. But nonetheless, I do appreciate what this scholarship is doing. Too much students nowadays are locked in the small world of a campus – they don’t get enough exposure to the outside world.
