All the incoming and outgoing DCS executives met up all of Sunday for a turnover summit. The purpose was to celebrate a year-end, and more importantly, pass on the torch. The event ran from 9am – 4 pm in celebration hall, although we did break into workshops spread around DSB. As expected, breakfast and lunch were covered.
The morning was filled with keynote speakers, including outgoing and incoming DCS presidents, as well as several faculty members. To summarize, the presentations revolved around how we are the future, leadership, teamwork, providing opportunities … etc. I’m sure you can imagine, it was quite a long morning.
We broke for lunch, which was an upgrade compared to the meager breakfast of bagels and coffee. We still fed the standard cold cut sandwiches, vegetable platters and desserts from paradise catering.
After lunch was the real value – we split off into exec position team meetings. For example, all the DCS finance, operations, sponsorship, etc. met up individually. It was very productive – sharing insights from outgoing execs, using tools that other club execs found successful, brainstorming ideas were all very valuable. For our finance team, we proposed using a unified accounting program like QuickBooks, which would make auditing and tracking much easier to manage. Many of the outgoing execs that did internships also brilliant strategies for building excel templates and the likes.
After our workshops, we regrouped back to celebration hall. Teal McAteer, another faculty members gave a very interesting talk on motivation and organizational behavior. It was focused on effective personality styles and optimizing the workplace – very interesting stuff.
