The alumni association at our school hosted a seminar on entrepreneurship. Featuring a recently alumni who founded her own company and is thriving after 2 years in operations. It was a very good seminar – I didn’t regret the class I skipped to attend this. She basically walked us through how she got started in the business (having a very niche knowledge of telecommunications from working for Rogers during the summer), some struggles she faced and how she overcame them. Very insightful and inspiring talk. Its my personal belief that founding a successful business can be one of the greatest achievements for an individual. Forging your own path and “making something out of nothing” sounds immensely gratifying and fulfilling to me.
It was held in a small room with around 15 people in attendance. But the food was heavenly – the alumni association really had deep pockets! They ordered the highest quality sandwiches and foods from the catering company. It was delicious and plentiful. Proper utensils and plates were used, instead of the usual paper crap.
They served up assorted sandwiches and wraps (chicken, beef, ham, egg salad). Gourmet fruits (various melons, strawberry, grapefruits, oranges and grapes). Not seen was a plate full of dessert cakes and pastries.
