This week was the start of a 1-week $25 grocery challenge. Organized by a poverty awareness club, participants signed up to receive a grocery bag filled with $25 worth of food. Participants must only eat food from that bag and cannot supplement their diet with additional nourishments. The idea being, many families are only living on $25/week for food, sometimes even less.
Its quite ironic that I spent $40 on groceries in total this month, but I am not comparing myself to people on welfare – they don’t have the access to free food like me.
As you can see, the food is quite meager and not nearly enough for a healthy adult human. Another point is, the organizers didn’t spread the $25 budget well; I would have bought everything on sale, close to expiry as well as buying in bulk (oatmeal).
